Two 200 kW EV charging stations open at Rimi in Palanga
A new Eldrive EV charging location has started operating in Palanga, at the Rimi store at Malūno g. 10. Two high-power charging stations of 200 kW each have been installed here, so four electric vehicles can be charged at the same time. To mark the opening, drivers are offered a special charging price of EUR 0.30/kWh here.
This is already the 19th Rimi store in Lithuania with Eldrive charging stations.
Known as the summer capital, the town attracts large numbers of holidaymakers from all over Lithuania in the warm season, so demand for transport and EV charging infrastructure also rises sharply. The new stations will give more options for charging a car both to Palanga residents and to holidaymakers visiting the resort.
More charging options in the summer capital
According to Tomas Tamašauskas, Head of Eldrive Lithuania, Palanga is a strategically important location for expanding the EV charging network, as drivers’ needs grow especially during the season.
“Palanga is Lithuania’s summer capital, where people from all over the country flock in the warm season. Naturally, demand for EV charging grows along with this. We want those arriving at the seaside to feel confident and know that they will be able to charge their car conveniently and quickly right in town. The new location at Rimi gives more choice and makes it possible to combine charging an electric car with everyday errands,” says T. Tamašauskas.
The two 200 kW stations installed at the new location are designed for fast EV charging. Depending on the car model, battery capacity, temperature and the charging power the car supports, the battery of many modern electric vehicles can be charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 20–30 minutes.
This means drivers will be able to charge their car while shopping or during a short stop in town, without planning a separate trip for it. The convenient location at one of Palanga’s everyday destinations will be relevant both to permanent residents and to visitors to the resort.
“High-power stations are especially important where the flow of people and traffic can grow sharply in a short time. In summer in Palanga, drivers want to spend their time relaxing rather than waiting a long time for the car to charge. That is why our goal is to offer a fast, convenient and easily accessible service where people already go. While the car is charging, the driver can do their shopping and, after a short break, continue the journey,” says T. Tamašauskas.
Electric cars are increasingly chosen for trips to the seaside
The number of electric vehicles on Lithuania’s roads is growing rapidly. On 1 July 2026, 55,884 M1 and N1 category plug-in vehicles were registered in the country: 29,090 battery electric vehicles and 26,794 plug-in hybrids. Electric cars are increasingly used not only for everyday trips in town but also for travelling between different regions of Lithuania, to resorts or abroad.
Changing travel habits are also reflected in Eldrive network data. Judging by the number of charging sessions on the A1 highway, at the Eldrive Porsche Charging Hubs operating near Raseiniai and Rietavas, EV traffic towards Palanga and other seaside resorts almost doubled in the summer season. This confirms that the electric car is becoming a fully-fledged vehicle for longer journeys, and that the route to the seaside is one of the most important directions for further development of charging infrastructure.
“Just a few years ago, the electric car was mostly associated with everyday trips in town. Now we see a completely different picture – people confidently drive electric cars from Vilnius, Kaunas or other cities to the seaside, plan holiday routes and see charging as a natural part of the journey. The almost doubled number of charging sessions at our hubs on the main route to the seaside is a clear signal that infrastructure must grow together with drivers’ needs,” says T. Tamašauskas.
According to him, charging options are important not only on the way to the seaside but also at the destination itself. It must be convenient for drivers to charge their car at a shop, hotel, entertainment venue or other places they visit. This makes it possible to fit charging naturally into daily plans and avoid a separate stop just to charge the car.
The partnership is expanding the charging network across Lithuania
The new charging location in Palanga continues the partnership between Eldrive and Rimi that began in 2023. Under this partnership, charging infrastructure is being steadily expanded at retail locations in different Lithuanian cities and regions. The Palanga location is already the 19th at Rimi stores where drivers can use Eldrive charging services.
Charging locations like these make it possible to use time efficiently, as the car can be charged while shopping or doing other everyday activities. This is especially relevant in resort towns, where the flow of drivers increases sharply during the season.
“Our aim is that an EV driver should not have to wonder whether there will be somewhere to charge. The location opened in Palanga will help serve the growing summer traffic, provide more convenience for local residents and further strengthen the charging infrastructure on the coast. We want a trip to the seaside by electric car to be as simple and natural as any other journey,” concludes T. Tamašauskas.
