How does an electric SUV perform on a 1,000 km journey in varying weather conditions, combining motorway driving with mountain roads? Turatii.ro set off on a journey in the Subaru E-OUTBACK to test its range, energy consumption and charging experience on a route that included Bucharest, Râșnov and Făgăraș.
The journey began in favourable conditions, with temperatures ranging from 17°C to 28°C. Over more than 300 km around Bucharest and its surroundings, the Subaru E-OUTBACK recorded an average consumption of 15.3 kWh/100 km. However, the journey towards the destination brought very different conditions: temperatures as low as 8°C, heavy rain and motorway driving at speeds of up to 130 km/h, all of which affected energy consumption.
Along the way, the car charged at Eldrive stations at Lidl Râșnov before continuing towards Căsuțele de sub Șipote. During this session, the battery was charged from 14% to 93% in approximately 43 minutes, with an average charging power of 84 kW and a peak of nearly 119 kW. On the return trip, at Shopping Park S7 Făgăraș, another charging session took the battery from 44% to 100% in approximately 44 minutes, with an average charging power of 59 kW and a peak of nearly 92 kW.
By the time the onboard computer showed 1,000 km, the recorded average consumption was 20.7 kWh/100 km, following a journey that included low temperatures, heavy rain and a brisk driving pace. Beyond the figures, the experience highlighted the importance of a charging network that supports long-distance travel, even when plans need to be adjusted to changing road and weather conditions.
For Eldrive Romania, experiences like this demonstrate the role charging infrastructure plays in long-distance electric travel. A well-distributed network gives drivers greater flexibility when planning their routes and makes it easier to reach a variety of destinations, regardless of the season or conditions encountered along the way.
