Eldrive, one of the largest electric vehicle charging networks in Lithuania, is lowering prices at its charging points installed at Rimi stores. From 27 March to 12 April, the price of fast charging for drivers will be EUR 0.29/kWh and slow charging EUR 0.25/kWh.
Eldrive, which signed a partnership agreement with Rimi in 2023, currently has charging stations installed at 18 stores across Lithuania. Tomas Tamašauskas, Head of Eldrive Lithuania, says that many people travel around Lithuania during the upcoming holidays, so we want to encourage them to choose electric cars for their trips.
“The fast-charging stations installed at Rimi stores allow drivers to use their time efficiently – while they shop, the electric car can be charged. It is one of the most convenient charging locations for everyday needs. Charging stations with 50–180 kW of power can charge an electric car from 20 to 80% in about 20–30 minutes. This is the optimal solution for shopping centre locations, where drivers naturally spend exactly that amount of time,” says T. Tamašauskas.
“We want visiting Rimi to be as convenient as possible, so that customers can take care of both their everyday shopping and charging their electric car at the same time. The partnership with Eldrive makes this simple and hassle-free, while also contributing to more sustainable everyday choices. We are pleased that drivers are being offered even more attractive conditions over the holiday period – it is a good opportunity to try the fast-charging stations and to plan trips and shopping before Easter more easily,” says Vaidas Lukoševičius, CEO of Rimi Lietuva.
Electric car growth – riding the wave
According to the latest data from the Ministry of Transport and Communications as of 1 March, there are 25,195 battery electric vehicles (BEV) and 22,422 plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV) in Lithuania.
“The number of electric cars in Lithuania is growing steadily – more and more new vehicles are registered every month. This shows that drivers' confidence in electric cars is growing not only in the major cities but also in the regions,” says T. Tamašauskas.
According to him, the number of charging stations in Lithuania has grown significantly over the past few years: “Over the past few years, charging infrastructure in Lithuania has expanded several times over. Today, electric car drivers can confidently plan trips across the whole country, as charging options are widely available. Partnerships such as the one with Rimi contribute even more to this expansion – Rimi is one of the largest retail chains in Lithuania, and our goal is to be present at many of its stores across Lithuania. This synergy will ensure that we are where the drivers are.”
Choosing electric cars for travel
T. Tamašauskas says that Lithuanians are increasingly choosing electric cars for trips around Lithuania: “During major holidays and the summer season, we clearly see an increased demand for EV charging on the country's main roads. This shows that more and more people are choosing electric cars not only for everyday journeys but also for longer routes. We hope that this trend will continue over Easter, with drivers choosing convenient, economical and sustainable travel.
“Today, the charging stations in our network make it easy to travel all over Lithuania – from the major cities to the regions. Drivers can plan their routes with confidence, knowing that charging infrastructure will be along the way. The Eldrive Porsche charging hubs operating on the A1 highway near Raseiniai and Rietavas and on the Panevėžys bypass each have 20 charging bays, while a smaller hub with 10 charging bays has been installed in Senoji Varėna,” says T. Tamašauskas.
