Eldrive introduces a new Route Planner
EV charging network operator Eldrive is introducing a new app feature – the Route Planner. From 16 July 2026, it will be available to all Eldrive app users in Lithuania and will help them plan longer journeys by electric car more conveniently, by working out in advance the route, the charging stops required and their estimated duration.
The new feature is being introduced as the number of electric vehicles in Lithuania grows rapidly. According to data as of 1 July 2026, 55,884 M1 and N1 category plug-in vehicles were registered in the country: 29,090 battery electric vehicles and 26,794 plug-in hybrids. In the first half of 2026, the number of drivers choosing electricity as their fuel type was 56% higher than in the same period last year, and almost 48% more battery electric vehicles were purchased. Electric vehicles already account for around 3% of Lithuania’s entire passenger car fleet, compared with 1.95% last year (data from the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Regitra).
As the EV fleet grows, the way electric cars are used is also changing. Electric cars are increasingly chosen not only for everyday trips in town but also for travelling between different regions of Lithuania, to the seaside or abroad. It is therefore becoming important for drivers to easily find charging stations along their route, assess where they will need to stop and estimate the time needed for the journey and charging before they set off.
“It is important for drivers not only to find a charging station but also to understand in advance when they will need to stop, how long charging will take and with how much battery charge they will reach their destination. The Route Planner will help them get this information before they set off. This is an important step in further developing the capabilities of the Eldrive app and in making it useful throughout the entire journey – from preparing the route to charging the electric car,” says Tomas Tamašauskas, Head of Eldrive Lithuania.
To use the new feature, the driver will need to select their electric car model in the app, enter the start and end points of the journey, the current battery charge level and the desired remaining charge on arrival at the destination. Based on the information provided, the tool will suggest a recommended route with stops at Eldrive charging stations and show the estimated duration of each charge. The prepared route can be opened in the Google Maps app with a single tap and used for navigation.
In its calculations, the tool will take into account the technical data of the selected electric car, including battery capacity and average energy consumption. This way, the route recommendation will be tailored to the specific car model and the battery charge parameters chosen by the driver. For example, when planning a journey from Vilnius to Klaipėda, from Kaunas to Palanga or from Panevėžys to Druskininkai, the app will calculate whether the car will need to be charged along the way, suggest suitable Eldrive stations and indicate approximately how much time should be allowed for charging.
The Route Planner will complement the main features already available in the Eldrive app. Using the app, drivers can find the nearest charging stations, see their power and availability, start and stop a charging session, pay for the service and view the history of previous charging sessions.
Eldrive currently operates 177 publicly accessible charging locations in Lithuania, installed in major cities, at shopping centres, on main highways and at other points convenient for drivers. The company has also built four large EV charging hubs in the Raseiniai, Rietavas, Panevėžys and Senoji Varėna areas. At the Eldrive Porsche Charging Hubs in Raseiniai and Rietavas and at the Panevėžys charging hub, up to 20 electric vehicles can be charged at the same time, while Senoji Varėna has five ultra-fast charging stations of up to 400 kW. These hubs are located on the country’s most important roads and are designed for drivers travelling between Lithuanian cities.
As it continues to expand its public charging infrastructure, Eldrive aims not only to increase the number of charging locations but also to create digital solutions that make using an electric car easier. The Route Planner will combine the Eldrive charging network with the driver’s individual journey parameters, making the app more convenient for planning both everyday and longer trips.
The route, suggested charging stops and estimated journey and charging times provided by the tool are for guidance only. Actual results may vary depending on driving speed, weather and traffic conditions, vehicle load, actual energy consumption, charging station occupancy and other circumstances.
