Eldrive Goes Green with Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin from TOKI
Eldrive has started purchasing Guarantees of Origin for renewable energy from the digital electricity trader TOKI. This initiative will allow Eldrive to offset 100% of the carbon emissions generated during the production of the electricity used in its charging network, sourced from the national energy mix. At the same time, this will support the development of renewable energy sources (RES) by generating additional revenue for sector investors.
Guarantees of Origin are official certificates verifying that a certain amount of electricity is derived from renewable energy sources. These certificates serve two key purposes:
- They ensure that the equivalent amount of clean energy consumed by the user has been fed into the national energy mix.
- They encourage investment in renewable energy sources, leading to a greener energy mix and a cleaner environment in the country.
"In a business model like Eldrive's, we can't always choose the electricity supplier or, more importantly, the type of electricity powering our charging stations. Through this partnership, Eldrive is taking steps toward carbon neutrality—both for the energy our users consume and their overall carbon footprint." commented Dimo Kolchev, CEO of Eldrive Bulgaria.
Eldrive purchases Guarantees of Origin for clean energy from TOKI, equal to the amount of electricity consumed by users at its charging stations. This offsets the carbon emissions generated during electricity production in the general mix. Considering that approximately 20% of Bulgaria's energy mix already comes from renewable sources, this compensation even exceeds the carbon emissions generated by one-fifth.
"Through this partnership between TOKI and Eldrive, we not only reduce the carbon footprint of the operator and its users but also provide an additional incentive for developing RES projects. This indirectly contributes to a greener energy mix and a cleaner environment in the country," said Yuri Katanov, CEO of TOKI.
Eldrive is the largest operator of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in Bulgaria and the region, focusing on fast and super-fast charging. Currently, its network consists of over 1,200 charging points across its three markets—Bulgaria, Romania, and Lithuania—with more than 700 located in Bulgaria. The company plans to continue its international expansion.
TOKI is Bulgaria's first fully digital electricity supply service and the most active provider of 100% green energy sourced exclusively from renewable sources. All processes—from selecting a subscription plan and signing a contract to paying monthly bills and receiving invoices—are conducted online. This enables easier access to information and better accountability for users without the need to visit physical offices.
